December 2013 meeting minutes

Ho-ho-ho!

The meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM, December 17, 2013. Attending: Jason KF5EJX, Jim AB5JK, Cici AA5EK, Richard N5YPJ, Roger K0YY, Gary K5QOW and Erik K5WW.

The shack inventory hasn’t been completed yet; it’s going to be a formidable task. Jason says he’s going to do all of that.

Gary, on behalf of his fire department, has donated an Eaton 9130 uninterruptable power supply to the club. It is large and heavy! It’s up and running in the shack; but it does not have a dedicated space yet. It comes with a secondary battery; and the pair should power the shack equipment for quite some time in case of a power failure. Thank you, Gary! Jim recorded Gary’s donation statement; so this will be the first item on the inventory list! ๐Ÿ™‚

Jason paid for the new KN5S QSL cards; but states that he doesn’t want to be reimbursed for them. He also doesn’t want to be reimbursed for that (undisclosed) piece of computer hardware he purchased a few weeks ago. He said that the club’s money would be better used for whenย we get the tower up, and will have to buy an antenna. Thank you, mister president!

Treasurer Cici reports we currently have $470 in our old sock, which should go a long way towards the purchase of that antenna.

Ever since the November meeting Jim has been listening to the new frequencies that were suggested to us for the repeater, after it gets moved. He said that 147.240 was the cleanest of them all, and that 147.220 and 147.320 suffer from birdies and all kinds of various interference. We decided on 147.240 based on his report; and will get the repeater reprogrammed and up and running as soon as possible. Thanks Jim!

Jason also reports that he has plans to create a list of the “local” amateur radio operators, within a radius of 75 or 80 miles. Operators in that area may not even be aware of our existence. The whole idea behind this is to send them a letter, inviting them to our meetings, or even hold an “open shack” event in March. Seriously, what would we do without Jason? ๐Ÿ˜‰

ย The next meeting will be January 28, 2014. Six weeks from now, sigh…

Oh, Jim’s birthday’s on Christmas day! Ho-ho-ho ๐Ÿ™‚

Meeting adjourned at 7:50 PM.

Sorry to have missed the meeting, but I had rode over to Uvalde that Saturday before the meeting and I was still drained. Erik and Jason were contestin. I hope to make it to January’s meeting!
