Here it is!

The result of Field Day 2015: due to various varying variables we had to relocate to the club shack at the very last minute. That turned out to be a blessing; because this part of Texas got way too much rain on Saturday. If we’d had Field Day at Kickapoo Cavern State Park we would all have been soaking wet 2 minutes into FD, and “enjoying” a wonderful bronchitis by now…

So thanks to our esteemed President, who has just added a new skill to his already impressive toolbox, we relocated to 1038C. But: in the spirit of Field Day we did run all equipment from the small generator. And that generator had a really good workout, so much so that it quit on us a few times – for no apparent reason. But thanks to our uninterruptible power supply, generously donated by K5QOW a while ago, our radio operations were never interrupted! Oh, and that new skill Jason learned? Predicting the future! 😉

Only a few folks got to operate; but they both had a blast. Mary KU5Z made numerous RTTY contacts; something she hadn’t done in a long time. And we did observe many other stations on RTTY this year, as opposed to years past. Always good for some extra fun!

KU5Z running RTTY on 20 meters (bad focus, sorry!)

We even made more than a dozen QSOs on 6 meters. It turns out that, after properly grounding all equipment in the shack, our Spiderbeam also works beautifully on 6 meters. German engineering, don’t underestimate it! And best of all: we had a QSO with member Roger K0YY in Denver, on 6 meters. Thanks Roger!

Because of the rain and lightning storm we were off-air for several hours; but all in all we made almost 400 QSOs (SSB and RTTY) in the few hours that remained. Probably our best effort ever! We could have used an extra CW operator; but the usual suspects never showed up. Meanies! 😉

Thanks to the many visitors, and those who always do the logistics but are afraid of microphones, paddles and keyboards. Big fun in little Uvalde!

It’s official!

Field Day 2015 will be held in our top secret location across from the hospital this weekend (so not at Kickapoo Cavern Park). Please bring your own grass, weeds and dirt 🙂 (and insect repellant always helps, too).

Our apologies

For the past 5 days JustHost (where this website is located) has been under a DDos (Distributed Denial of Service) attack. This resulted in our website not being available most of the time; and also in coyotearc.net email not being delivered.

So: if you have emailed something to one of us in the past week and didn’t get a reply then please send it again.  It’s Friday 8 PM CDT now, and my emails are rolling in like crazy again; so – at least for the time being – things appear to be working.

Thanks for your patience!

May 2015 meeting minutes

The Coyote Amateur Radio Club meeting kicked off a bit late at roughly 7:30 not due to the usual late person. Attending were David WA6YJW, Jason KF5EJX, Jim AB5JK and Henry KD5MBH. Erik K5WW was unable to attend but was able to drop off checked cards from the QSL bureau and some cash from the sale of donated equipment from James WW5XX. Cool – more money.

We discussed field day and where to have it. No final decision has been made at this time. Please stay tuned for the location. Also there has been a new Yaesu DR-1 repeater donated to the club.

Yaesu DR-1

It’s the one on the top!

The repeater has been put on the air for testing on the club’s 2 meter frequencies. At the moment the AllStar and Echolink connection are not operational. The old Kenwood repeater that has the link capabilities will be back on the air Thursday. We also discussed the need for the proper external controller for the new repeater to be able to connect to AllStar and Echolink in the near future. Lots of talk about ham radio also.

Please excuse the minutes: I am the president and not the secretary. (boohoohoo…) I hope to see everyone next month.
